Development Studies Area is one of particular importance due to the fact that with EU accession (January 1, 2007), Romania has become a donor of development assistance, the development for cooperation being a complementary action of external trade relations of Romania.
The master program addresses international assistance based on a combination of policies to meet the needs in different areas of intervention: economic, including commercial, social and environmental protection, good governance, and security, education. 
The master program is addressed primarily to graduates of first cycle specializations in Political Science, International Relations and European Studies, Communication, Journalism, Public Administration, Sociology, Philosophy, Law, Economics and Business Administration, Foreign Affairs, Theology, and Education or for those who wish to operate in national and international structures clearly necessary to know the problems of global development policies and practices. The employers are usually represented by various government and non-governmental offices and services, development agencies, transnational corporations, immigration offices and services, or any relevant institutions known for their involvement in the management of development assistance such as European Parliament, European Commission, the NGOs Association for Development (FOND), OECD, ONU, PNUD, PNUE, UNICEF, FAO, World Bank, etc.
The general objectives of the graduate program of International Development Studies are:
• Creating a solid educational background that allows increasing the employability of national organizations, international and civil society through understanding of regional development policies, national and international;
• Develop the analysis capacity of economic, social, political and cultural concepts by understanding the dynamics of global development policies;
• Identify and evaluate the historical processes responsible for the phenomenon of underdevelopment and development;
• Training of professionals aware of the stakes related to development policies and strategies and the dynamics of international development assistance process in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals;
• Training of professionals able to assess the social, economic and political development impact in the context of international migration and transnational communities.

General competencies:
• Knowing the main directions of international development;
• Understanding the dynamics of international development assistance process;
• Knowing the relevant institutional structures for international development;
• Acquire knowledge of global security;
• Knowing of international policy to eradicate poverty;

Specific professional competencies:
• High capacity for holistic analysis of international development;
• Analysis of the European official development assistance;
• Analysis and assessment of Romania's strategy for international development cooperation policy;
• Use analytical framework of the Millennium targets for understanding the Romanian policy of international cooperation for development;
• Design and project management for international development.
